Little Cuties

I took these when I took photos of Daisy and Gatsby in honor of their adoption anniversary.

Here are some black and white photos of my little puppy cutie patooties:

Sweet Zoe...

And Little Lexi Lou...

Look at that adorable little face...

Somebody's sleepy...

The "where are my treats" for being good and posing stare down...

Another adorable little face...

I just love my little goobers!  Their cute little faces bring a smile to mine.  I hope you enjoyed seeing them, too. Thanks for stopping by!

Back So Soon?

I am really struggling with what the heck I'm supposed to be photographing now that I'm back to shooting but no longer taking portraits.  I'm used to looking at my surroundings to find good locations as backdrops for portraits.  I have no idea what I'm doing as I attempt to actually take photos of those surroundings! I've set out on a few outings recently to take photos of something, only to look at the images later and realize that they are complete and utter crap.

I am learning a lot about what I do and don't like to photograph, though.  Or maybe I should say I am being reminded, as the same applied when I was shooting portraits.  I love shooting when I have time to create exactly what I want with my photos.  I like being able to really consider my shots. I enjoy looking at my subject from different angles and experimenting with different options.  I don't enjoy photography as much when I'm in a rush to try to capture a moment before it is gone.  It feels too stressful to photograph things when I don't have time to fully study or consider them.  I guess to me it feels like the difference between creating and capturing.  I like knowing that I created great shots, versus just hoping I managed to capture them while things were whirling past.

I've been spending some time working through a list of exercises to 'improve your photography' that I found online.  I keep hoping that eventually I will have some photos that I like well enough to share on the blog.  In the mean time, I resorted to an old fall back for when I feel taking some photos, but have no clue what to point my camera at - Zoe & Lexi.  So, even thought it hasn't been very long since they were on the blog, I decided to share some new images of them. (It's a good thing they're so darn cute!)

My goal was to capture candid images of them, so I put on my longest zoom lens and sat on the patio waiting for them to wander out into the yard.  However, they had other plans!  They knew it was time for photos, and they never left my side.  So, I finally gave up my plans and opted to take more portraits of them.

They definitely did a lot better than they did last time!  I had a hard time narrowing down the photos, so I opted to just share a bunch of them...

Thanks for stopping by!

My Sweet Pups

I don't know that I'm back to shooting and blogging, and I don't know that I'm not.  What I do know is this: I had a ton of fun getting behind the camera last week to shoot Amanda's maternity photos and it has been for-freaking-ever since I photographed my sweet fur babies.  So I decided it was time to take some photos of them and add them to the blog.

The last time I took any photos of Zoe & Lexi was on Lexi's birthday in December 2014, and the last time I took any portraits of them was in November 2014.  It just breaks my heart to realize that I missed capturing two years of their lives and two years of their birthdays.  While I don't regret taking a break from my photography, I know I am going to regret not capturing those times in photos.

I have to admit that taking these photos didn't go as smooth as I would have liked!  The dogs were out of practice, just like I was, and it was a challenge to get them to stay in place.  Lexi did pretty well (which I'm sure is a huge shock to anyone who knows her!) but Zoe was a total goober and wouldn't stay sitting down for more than 5 seconds.  As soon as I'd back away and start lining up a shot, she'd pop up and come running towards me...

You can see her getting ready to do it again here...

And then Lexi decided to join her, and the next thing I knew I was trying to keep dog noses off of my lens as they ran up to me expecting treats...

This image of Zoe cracked me up with her little tongue poking out!...

I was basically grabbing any photos I could while they were staying put, so here they are with Zoe's flipped ear and all...

Like I said, Lexi was posing like a champ, so I ended up with a lot more photos of her.  Good thing she's so darn cute!...

Zoe was born on September 11, 2007 and Lexi was born on December 2, 2007 so both of my sweet babies are going to turn 10 years old at the end of the year.  I'm not sure how to even begin to wrap my mind around that.  In my head they are both just a few years old, so I'm still shocked every time I register the grey in Lexi's ears and Zoe's face.  (Of course, I do the same thing every time I take a good hard look at myself in the mirror because in my head I'm still 25!)  Thankfully, both of them are still in excellent health and doing quite well...

For some reason, Zoe was doing a little better posing alone, so I did manage to get a handful of decent shots of just her...

I just adore those sweet faces....

Does anyone know if dogs can have ADHD?  Because seriously, I swear Lexi has it.  She can't keep her attention on anything for more than a minute or two and even at 9 1/2 years old she still will race around the yard in circles like she's still a puppy.  Here she is focused on some noise that caught her attention...

And again...

And again!...

Oh, and again!...

Such happy girls...

AWE!!!...

Lexi loves her yard, I think she'd be content to spend all day in it if her people and Zoe would stay out there with her...

Another of sweet Zoe...

I managed to catch a silly photo of Lexi sticking her tongue out too...

I just love this photo of sweet little Lexi Lou...

Mmmm.  Did somebody say treats?...

BFFs...

I know she's thinking, "Would you just give me the treat already!"...

Definitely a favorite of Zoe...

Enough photos already!...

If you made it this far, thanks for stopping by and checking out the photos of my pups!  Stay tuned for some photos of my sweet cats soon.
